The Research and Education (RED) Division has four departments (Library Liaisons Program, Educational Initiatives, Knowledge Production, User Services) and three branch libraries (Architecture Studies Library, Music Library, and Teacher Development & Resources Library) and has 40 staff members, of which 21 are library faculty. The Research and Education Division (RED) fosters collaborations that contribute to our users' academic success, research, and lifelong learning and positively impacts student learning and supports the research and scholarly agenda of the University. This mission is realized through instruction of learners using a variety of methods and tools; partnerships with faculty to create an integrated, assessable, information literacy-focused curriculum; provision of targeted information resources; expert, point-of need research assistance; and a commitment to fostering competencies for lifelong inquiry.

ROLE of the POSITION
The University of Nevada, Las Vegas Libraries seeks innovative, collaborative, user-focused applicants for the position of Social Sciences & Interdisciplinary Studies Librarian. Reporting to the Head of the Library Liaison Program, this position will support undergraduate, graduate and faculty research in the departments of anthropology, sociology and political science throughout the research lifecycle. Additionally, this position will support undergraduate and faculty research associated with the Interdisciplinary, Gender, and Ethnic Studies Program and its subprograms including African American and African Diaspora Studies, Gender and Sexuality Studies, Latina/o Studies, American Indian and Indigenous Studies, Gerontology, Multidisciplinary Studies, Asian Studies, Latin American Studies, and Social Science Studies. Liaison librarians serve as the primary contact between UNLV Libraries and their departments. The successful candidate will develop curriculum-integrated instructional sessions, provide research support and consultations, and maintain an effective collection in these disciplines in order to meet the teaching and research needs of faculty and students. The incumbent will also participate in the Libraries’ strategic initiatives to assess the needs of faculty and students related to the acquisition and management of data.

The successful candidate will have demonstrated the ability to work in a complex, changing environment with a positive, flexible, and innovative attitude, and he/she/they will have a proven capacity to work effectively and collegially in teams with staff at all levels, as well as with faculty and students.

As a tenure-track library faculty member, the incumbent will also be expected to engage in scholarly activities; and provide service to the university, the community, and the profession in accordance with Libraries and University standards for promotion and tenure.

QUALIFICATIONS
This position requires an earned Master's Degree in library or information science from an American Library Association accredited program by the date of appointment.

Required
•     Competence and sensitivity in working at a university in which students, faculty, and staff are highly diverse with regard to many facets of identity, including but not limited to gender, ethnicity, nationality, sexual orientation, income, level of educational attainment, and religion.
•     Demonstrated subject knowledge and familiarity with the research methodologies of anthropology, sociology, political sciences and/or interdisciplinary studies.
•     Demonstrated familiarity in finding and using data housed in large-scale open access data repositories used in anthropology, sociology, and/or political science, such as E-HRAF, ICPSR, Data.gov, Eurostat, IPUMS, etc.
•     Recent experience or course work in information literacy instruction.
•     Recent experience or course work in developing online learning-support tools such as tutorials and online guides.
•     Excellent oral and written communication skills.
•     Evidence of energy, creativity, initiative and commitment to professional growth.
•     Ability to work independently and collegially.

Preferred
•     Relevant undergraduate and/or graduate degree in anthropology, sociology, political science, and/or interdisciplinary studies or significant discipline-specific experience in an academic library.
•     Demonstrated experience with quantitative and/or qualitative data software such as Stata, R, NVivo, etc.
•     Understanding of current trends and issues in scholarly publishing and communication, including the role of open access mandates as a grant funding requirement.
•     Academic library experience with research assistance and information literacy instruction.


SALARY RANGE
This is a full-time, 12-month, tenure-track position at Rank II (equivalent to Assistant Professor). Salary range is $65,000 - $68,000. Salary is competitive with those at similarly situated institutions and dependent upon labor market. Position is contingent upon funding. In addition, University Libraries is committed to and helps fund professional development opportunities.
