16655BR Library Major/Essential Functions Texas Tech University Libraries seek an innovative, forward-thinking, creative individual to serve as Assistant Librarian for the College of Education. This tenure-track position reports to the Head of Research, Instruction & Outreach and will act as the department’s primary liaison to the College of Education and the various centers within, such as the Burkhart Center for Autism Education & Research. The Assistant Librarian for the College of Education will play a centralized role in creating and customizing library services to support Texas Tech Universities students, faculty and staff. Librarians at Texas Tech University are members of the faculty and are expected to participate in service/engagement, teaching/teaching support and research/creative activities to meet the Libraries and University requirements for tenure and promotion. Responsibilities: Specific responsibilities will include: Participate in the Library’s instruction and outreach program with emphasis on promoting information literacy in the College of Education. Provide reference services in creative and innovative ways including personal contact with departments and utilizing various technology tools as needed. Develop and maintain education research materials in both print and digital forms as well as making specific recommendations to purchase research materials germane to education. Contribute to Ask A Librarian and other virtual reference services as needed. Maintain and enhance web-based research guides such as the creation of LibGuides. Engage and interact with all Library user communities through formal and informal channels to determine user needs. Explores, evaluates and encourages integration of emergent technology into library services. Engage in scholarly pursuit and other professional activities in accordance with Texas Tech Universities Libraries’ standards for promotion and tenure. Org Level 1 Texas Tech University Position Description To serve the information needs of library clientele in assigned subject area(s) to include liaison, collection development, user instruction and reference activities; must also cooperate and function as part of a team to provide services to all library users. This is an entry-level rank assigned to those beginning their professional careers or those, who upon their appointment, do not meet the criteria of Associate Librarian. Work is performed under general supervision with latitude for individual initiative and judgment. Evaluation of employee performance is based upon accomplishment of defined objectives. Required Qualifications Master’s degree in Library Science from an ALA accredited program. Preferred Qualifications Three years library experience. Understanding of the research process and knowledge of the ways new technologies are affecting the production of scholarship. Evidence of a strong customer service orientation coupled with an ability to interact positively and productively in a collegial academic environment. Excellent oral and written communication skills. Experience working with diverse student populations and first-generation students is highly desirable. Additional degree in Education or related field. Experience in the Education field. Library course work in education resources, with a knowledge of the information needs and an understanding of the ways new technologies are affecting the production of scholarship in education, as distinct from other fields. Occasional Duties The position requires service on various teams and committees as assigned as well as other duties in support of RIO and the Libraries.
