The Detroit Area Library Network (DALNET) seeks candidates with credentials to qualify for a full-time position as a DALNET Systems Librarian, with the rank of the Librarian I or II (depending on qualifications). This contract position is renewable annually, one year in advance.

Founded as a nonprofit corporation in 1985, DALNET is a multi-type library consortium serving its members throughout Michigan. DALNET enables members to better serve their users through cooperative efforts, and by sharing advanced library automation applications. DALNET is based at Wayne State university, a Carnegie I Research University with a commitment to teaching and learning excellence. A comprehensive university with 13 colleges and schools offering over 350 academic programs, WSU enrolls over 33,000 students, including 20,000 undergraduates. WSU is situated in Detroit's cultural district amidst museums, theaters, medical facilities and corporate offices, easily accessible from major freeways.

Position purpose: This incumbent provides responsive customer service, technical development, and training in support of systems used by DALNET. In close collaboration with colleagues and customer, this library professional analyzes and resolves complex technical problems involving applications, data, and systems software configuration and use, including work with APIs and web services.

Essential functions: Serves as subject matter and technical expert for DALNET systems, especially library management and discovery systems contracted for by DALNET members. Develops and applies extensive knowledge of these systems to ensure the optimal use of available resources. Maintains and develops DALNET website and related services and keeps up-to-date on Web technologies as they arise and evaluates them on an as needed basis;

Provide support for library management systems and discovery systems and other assigned applications through troubleshooting, testing, and implementing upgrades and enhancements, and system administration and development. Editing of database system records and a working knowledge of SQL and relational database structures;

Assume leadership for assigned projects involving customers and applications that require the integration of multiple systems, platforms and technologies which includes providing support and direction for working groups;

Collaborate with colleagues to define requirements for the library management systems, discovery systems, and other systems used by DALNET;

Train customers on the use of DALNET systems, related applications, and various utility programs and reporting tools; and

Travel to member institutions, as well as regional, state and national meetings and conferences.

Qualifications
Master's degree in Library and information Science from an ALA-accredited institution, or equivalent;

Knowledge and experience with library or other software, systems communication protocols and standards, and API work including but not limited to knowledge of webhooks, API keys, REST APIs, S/FTP, NCIP, etc.;

Working knowledge of relevant Internet delivery technologies and programming languages such as XML/XSL, PHP, HTML, CSS, JavaScript, JSON;

Ability to work with customers to define requirements, analyze issues and develop workable solutions;

Excellent project management and time management skills, including the capacity to work independently and to manage complex projects with minimal supervision;

Ability to be flexible and willing to take risks, the capacity to learn constantly and quickly, and an abiding public service perspective;

Strong oral and written communication skills;

Preferred Qualifications
Knowledge of multiple library management systems and discovery interfaces, and other applications. Specific experience using and configuring the Alma library platform, Primo discovery interface, and DSpace digital repository system.

Experience with or knowledge of OAI-PMH compliant metadata harvesting and indexing;

Experience in acquisitions, serials control, or circulation in a library or similar organization;

Experience with deployment and maintenance of authentication systems and/or SSO (Single Sign-On) mechanisms, including LDAP, CAS, and/or Shibboleth;

Basic understanding of data communication protocols, software, and networks;

Qualifications for Librarian I Rank: Masters degree in Library and Information Science from an ALA-accredited institution;

Potential to develop a professional identity and competence;

Evidence of a beginning record of excellence in professional achievement;

Qualifications for Librarian II Rank: Librarian I plus demonstrated ability to carry out the professional functions of this position;

Established record of excellence in professional achievements and service;

Potential for continuing professional growth;

Salary and benefits
