Simon Fraser University Library invites applications for a Liaison Librarian for Education. This full-time, one-year, limited term position will be based at Fraser Library, Surrey campus, and supports the Faculty of Education at all three SFU campuses.

Reporting to the Head, Fraser Library, the incumbent will be responsible for providing library liaison services to all areas of the Faculty, including undergraduate, graduate and teacher education students, and researchers. The incumbent will also actively contribute to projects related to library services and initiatives.

This position will be attractive to an adaptable and innovative individual with excellent communication and collaborative skills and a user-centered focus; one who is highly motivated to embrace new technologies and to provide services to faculty and students.

ASSIGNMENT

• Act as liaison between the SFU Library and the faculty, staff and students in the Faculty of Education at all SFU campuses.
   - Promote library services and collections and report the discipline's requirements to the appropriate area of the library.
   - In collaboration with Collections Management develop, assess, and manage information resources in all formats to address the teaching and research needs of the Faculty of Education. This may include maintaining the collection policy; maintaining profiles for approval plans; reviewing subscriptions; selecting material; budget oversight; other collection activities.
   - Communicate with faculty and students in Education about trends in scholarly communication and publishing, and promote the library's programs in this area.
   - Provide these services to other liaison areas as required.
   - Provide instruction and assistance to students and faculty in the use of information sources through instructional seminars, guides, and individual consultations.
• Provide in-person and online reference service in all disciplines as a member of a team serving students and faculty in an active research environment.
• Work with other library staff on project teams and committees.
• Develop professional knowledge, skills, and disciplinary expertise on a continuing basis.
• Participate in professional organizations.
• Advance the values and goals outlined in the Library’s Strategic Plan.
• Incorporate SFU Library’s commitment to equity, diversity, and inclusion into all planning and activities.
• Other duties as assigned.
• Note that while the current assignment is for Education, areas may be reassigned as needed.

QUALIFICATIONS

The ideal candidate will have or will demonstrate:
• Master's degree in Library or Information Studies from an ALA accredited program, or its equivalent;
• Broad knowledge of bibliographic tools and electronic resources for humanities and/or social sciences disciplines;
• Collections and reference experience in one or more humanities or social science disciplines;
• Ability to work in a complex and collaborative research environment, assisting students and faculty;
• Skill in planning and delivering instruction in both one-on-one, classroom, and/or online environments;
• A proven user-centered focus; willingness to collaborate and share expertise, ability to work in teams and negotiate solutions;
• Knowledge of trends in academic library environments and post-secondary education;
• Ability to recognize, respect and work effectively with individuals and groups with diverse perspectives and backgrounds;
• Ability to develop, maintain and grow professional relationships;
• Excellent interpersonal and intercultural communication skills, both orally and written;
• Ability to learn, adapt and work in a collegial team environment;
• Commitment to continued professional development;
• Ability to advance equity, diversity, and inclusion and to serve the cause of social justice and Indigenous initiatives at the Library and SFU;
• Demonstrated commitment to the values outlined in the Library’s Strategic Plan.

TERMS OF APPOINTMENT

This is a full time term Librarian position, beginning 30 September 2019.
