Job Description:              

The Arthur Lakes Library of the Colorado School of Mines invites applications for the position of Scholarly Communications Librarian. We are seeking creative, collaborative, passionate, and innovative candidates to provide leadership in advancing scholarly communications programs that align with Library and Campus priorities and policies. This person will lead the implementation and ongoing progression of the Arthur Lakes Library to be the campus nexus for scholarly communications. Working in a highly collaborative, small team environment, the candidate’s leadership responsibilities will intersect with many of the Library’s key strategic initiatives.

The Scholarly Communications Librarian position develops partnerships with faculty, students, and researchers at Mines and other institutions on using, creating, disseminating, and preserving scholarly information throughout the research and knowledge creation lifecycle. The Scholarly Communications Librarian has leadership, management, policy, planning, education, and advocacy responsibilities for all aspects of scholarly communications. Through proactive outreach, instruction, and consultation, the Scholarly Communications Librarian establishes campus trust in the Library’s expertise, and builds collaborative partnerships to enhance Mines’ research impact, promote open scholarship, and disseminate research outputs.


·        Designing and coordinating education and outreach programs to build knowledge, awareness, and practices connected to the broader research information ecosystem
·        Proactively identifying tools and infrastructure that facilitate digital research, data management, and publishing workflows, coordinating their implementation at Mines, and using them to establish best practices for reproducible and open research in collaboration with researchers and students
·        Developing partnerships with research information ecosystem stakeholders, inside and outside Mines, to introduce cutting-edge initiatives on scholarly communications
·        Providing copyright and intellectual property related instruction, consultation, and learning guides for campus communities and library staff
·        Advocating for and coordinating the establishment of Mines policies on open access, open data, and open educational resources
·        Coordinating the development, expansion, and interconnectivity of the Mines Institutional Repository (Mountain Scholar)
·        Participate as an active member of the Mines library faculty, serving on Library and university committees.
·        Actively engage in and disseminate the output of scholarly research that advances library and information science and interact with the professional community on a regional, state, national and/or international level, both formally and informally.

Minimum Qualifications:
·        Demonstrated knowledge of current trends, issues, and technology in scholarly communications, research data management, and copyright in higher education or research institutions
·        Coursework or experience in areas relevant to scholarly communications
·        At least one year of experience as a librarian in an academic library

·        Master’s degree in Library and Information Science from an ALA-accredited program or international equivalent

Preferred Qualifications:
·        STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, or Math) degree and/or coursework

·        Experience providing support on research data management through consultations and workshops
·        Evidence of active participation and leadership in scholarly communications and research data management related initiatives, programs, or activities in an academic library or similar organizations
·        Instructional experience in an academic environment
·        Strong project management and peer-leading skills
·        Effective communications, teamwork, and partnership-building skills

·        Ability to work with faculty and graduate students in a wide range of disciplines, especially STEM areas
·        Ability to learn new technical skills quickly and independently, adapting to changing environments
·        Ability to work well in a wide range of project environments from independent initiatives to collaborative committee undertakings
·        Excellent communications skills, including public speaking
·        Capacity to thrive in an ambiguous, future-oriented environment of a research institution and to respond effectively to changing needs and priorities
·        Commitment to open scholarship and facilitation of high-impact and reproducible research
·        Ability to build and sustain effective partnerships with faculty, staff, students and other campus collaborators
·        Demonstrated willingness to respond to new opportunities with initiative, creative energy, entrepreneurship, and leadership
·        Demonstrated ability to set priorities, meet deadlines, and complete tasks and projects on time and within budget and in accordance with project parameters

About the Library: The Arthur Lakes Library supports the information and educational needs of the Colorado School of Mines, primarily in science and engineering, and provides technical information to the regional community.
