The Marin County Free Library (MCFL) is a special taxing district that operates ten branch libraries in Marin under the authority of the Board of Supervisors. MCFL’s mission is to provide welcoming, equitable and inclusive opportunities for all to connect, learn and explore. It delivers public library services to the residents of the unincorporated areas of the County and the cities of Corte Madera, Fairfax and Novato.

ABOUT THE POSITION:

Under the general supervision of a Community Library Specialist, the Mobile Library Assistant drives the bookmobile following a designated route, providing a variety of services to Library patrons. Stops are focused on children, seniors and remote areas of the County where patrons are unable to reach physical libraries. The Mobile Library Assistant is also responsible for maintaining the bookmobile collection, which requires loading and unloading bins of materials which may weigh up to 50 lbs.

If you wish to also be considered for the Learning Bus Mobile Library Assistant, you must complete a separate application.

ABOUT YOU:

Our Highly Qualified Candidate: will have the ability to drive the Bookmobile safely, reaching each stop on the schedule in a timely manner. They will enthusiastically participate in community events such as parades, fairs and staff tables, effectively representing the Library. The ideal candidate will also enjoy working closely with long time users of the Bookmobile to provide appropriate materials. They will be flexible, resourceful and capable of working independently to address the sometimes unpredictable nature of mobile and outreach services. The ideal candidate will be detail oriented and have excellent customer service skills. Bilingual Spanish/English skills are desirable.

We recognize your time is valuable, so please do not apply if you do not have at least the following required Minimum Qualifications:

Any combination of education and experience that demonstrates the required knowledge and abilities. Typically, two years of experience performing clerical and/or technical support in a library or community agency setting. Successful completion of related course work from a college or university may be substituted for the required experience on a year for year basis (30 semester or 45 quarter units) to a maximum of one year.

Certificates and Licenses:
Driving a motor vehicle is an essential function of this classification. Possession of a valid California class C driver's license and a satisfactory driving record as obtained from the Department of Motor Vehicles are required.

A Class B driver's license with air brake certification within six (6) months of appointment.

Special Requirements:
The successful candidate will be required to successfully complete a background investigation.

Employment with the County requires the affirmation of a loyalty oath to this effect. Employees are required to complete all Disaster Service Worker-related training as assigned, and to return to work as ordered in the event of an emergency.
