Scholarly Communications Librarian

Description:
The Scholarly Communications Librarian is a tenure-track, faculty position responsible for developing and delivering an active program of education, training, advocacy, support and information sharing regarding a wide range of issues that promote effective sharing and barrier free access to scholarly resources. Reporting to the Director of Scholarly Communications and Information Policy, this individual works as part of a team to grow and sustain a rapidly evolving set of services that supports researchers across the full scholarly communication lifecycle in the broad array of disciplines served by a large research library.

The successful candidate acts as an active advocate and resource for faculty and staff on a full range of issues that promote barrier-free availability of scholarly intellectual resources, including open research practices, open educational resources and affordable course content, author rights and fair use, and repository outreach and rights management. They assist in developing and implementing a broad range of education and outreach services aimed at ensuring the best possible information is available across NYU’s global community. Duties include: managing research guides on the creation, use, and dissemination of scholarly material; providing workshops, training, and consultations for students, faculty, librarians and staff of the University on analyzing individual scholarly identity, research impact, and other issues relating to the creation and dissemination of scholarly resources; and developing processes and outreach activities to increase awareness and use of open access publishing models and open educational resources.

The Scholarly Communications Librarian collaborates closely with staff across the library and participates in library-wide committees, activities, and special projects, especially those involving new methodologies and scholarly communication practices, particularly as they relate to open access and open scholarship. The incumbent develops and maintains awareness of scholarly communication initiatives across the disciplines, attending professional meetings, workshops and conferences for training and continuing professional development.

Qualifications:

Required:
•     Minimum one graduate degree (master’s level or higher) for consideration. A second graduate degree will be required at the time of consideration for tenure and promotion.
•     Academic or professional experience in scholarly communication principles and practices, such as open access, digital scholarship, and author rights and fair use, and repository management and outreach.
•     Ability to work effectively with patrons and colleagues in a collaborative environment.
•     Excellent oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills.
•     Strong public service orientation.
•     Demonstrated commitment to building inclusion, diversity, belonging, and equity in professional practice
Preferred:
•     Experience providing repository and digital publishing outreach, education, and services in a large, research-intensive academic setting.
•     Experience with navigating issues relating to copyright, fair use, and rights management.
•     Reference/consultation, teaching, and/or outreach experience in an academic library.
•     Experience working across organizational boundaries and managing complex stakeholder groups to move projects forward.

Salary/Benefits:
Faculty status, attractive benefits package including five weeks annual vacation. Salary commensurate with experience and background.
