The Marin County Free Library (MCFL) is a special taxing district that operates ten branch libraries; two mobile vehicles; and an Archive in Marin under the authority of the Board of Supervisors. MCFL’s mission is to provide welcoming, equitable and inclusive opportunities for all to connect, learn and explore. It delivers public library services to the residents of the unincorporated areas of the County and the cities of Corte Madera, Fairfax and Novato.

ABOUT THE POSITION:
This recruitment will be used to establish an eligible list to fill both full-time and part-time vacancies within the Marin County Free Library.

Library Aides play a major role in ensuring library patrons can easily find what they are looking for at the Library. Library Aides are often focused on sorting, arranging and shelving library materials; picking up/unloading, checking in and sorting the library book drop and delivery; processing new materials; searching for, retrieving and processing lists of library materials; assisting in the set-up of library programs; and helping keep the library a neat, welcoming place.

Library Aides follow oral and written instructions; maintain accuracy in repetitive work; and, identify discrepancies between the instructions and outcomes. They are frequently required to lift and move around bins/boxes of materials weighing 30-50 pounds, as well as shelve materials at ground level. The library is a place where information transforms lives; if you’re the kind of person who wants to play a part in making that happen, this may be the ideal job for you!

ABOUT YOU:
Our Highly Qualified Candidate: The ideal candidate is enthusiastic, friendly, focused, flexible, exhibits strong attention to detail, and effectively communicates with coworkers and patrons. They can quickly deal with a book drop overflowing with returned materials, find every book on a list of materials on the library’s shelves that patrons have requested, and rush over to help the children’s librarian set-up for a story time. Bilingual skills as well as a working knowledge of Microsoft Word, Sierra and other computer software programs are highly desirable skills though not required.

Special Requirements: Must be willing to work on-call, evenings and weekends as assigned.

The eligible list established from this recruitment will be used to fill the current vacancy and any future vacancies for open, fixed-term, full-time or part-time positions which may occur while the list remains active.

Disaster Service Workers: All County of Marin employees are designated Disaster Service Workers through state and local law (California Government Code Section 3100-3109).
Employment with the County requires the affirmation of a loyalty oath to this effect. Employees are required to complete all Disaster Service Worker-related training as assigned, and to return to work as ordered in the event of an emergency.
