The Lexington Public Library serves the 322,000 residents of the City of Lexington and Fayette County, KY through its six locations and its virtual services. With a committed, innovative staff, an annual $17 million operating budget, a strong Library Foundation, and a supportive Friends of the Library, the Lexington Public Library strives for greatness in serving its diverse communities of the City and the County. Key opportunities for the Village Branch Manager include mentoring, coaching and developing branch staff, implementing library services, collections and programming focusing on the Latino community, and working with the leadership team developing the new Village branch facility (coming in two years).

Responsibilities. The Branch Manager (Librarian III) will report to Director of Access and Strategic Initiatives and is responsible for administrative and professional library work directing the successful operation of the Library branch. Modeling a passion for outstanding customer service, the Branch Manager provides quality service by supporting and managing branch staff, maintaining the vibrancy and relevancy of the branch collections and supporting the work of the Lexington Public Library. This position is responsible for maneuvering complex systems and relationships and communicating and collaborating system-wide to support the Library’s mission and strategic goals. The successful candidate will provide leadership to the branch staff and inspire fun, innovation and curiosity in the branch team. This position will play a key role in hiring, training, mentoring, and developing staff to promote relevant services and programs. Qualifications. Minimum qualifications are possession of a master’s degree in library science (MLS) from an ALA-accredited program and considerable responsible experience in professional library work including administrative and supervisory experience; or any equivalent combination of experience which provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities. The candidate must read, write and speak Spanish fluently. Additional desired qualifications include, but are not limited to, knowledge of best practices in innovative library service; a passion and knowledge of LPL materials, programs, and services; demonstrated ability to take ownership of a library branch and be responsive to the needs of the community; ability to select, supervise, coach/counsel and evaluate a flexible staff in a changing environment; ability to communicate effectively with internal and external stakeholders; and the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with other staff, library patrons and the general public.

Compensation. The position offers a starting salary range of $48,206.50-$63,329.12-$78,451,74 (dependent upon experience and qualifications) with an excellent fringe benefits package. Relocation assistance is available.
