The Marin County Free Library (MCFL) is a special taxing district that operates ten branch libraries in Marin under the authority of the Board of Supervisors. MCFL’s mission is to provide welcoming, equitable and inclusive opportunities for all to connect, learn and explore. It delivers public library services to the residents of the unincorporated areas of the County and the cities of Corte Madera, Fairfax and Novato.

ABOUT THE POSITION:

Reporting to the Deputy Director of County Library Services, the Senior Librarian will manage the day-to-day operations, facility, and dynamic, engaged staff at our second busiest library branch, the Corte Madera Library. Located just nine miles from the Golden Gate Bridge, this library features a lovely garden with benches available for enjoying the outdoors, a large up-to-date collection of library materials, engaging programming for adults, teens, and children, and cutting-edge technology including VR/AR for the community to learn from and enjoy. When it’s not in use by teens for after- school tutoring or late-night study sessions, the community room hosts engaging and innovative programming for all ages and rotating art exhibits from local artists. For all these reasons, the Corte Madera Library is deeply loved by our patrons, not only for the beauty of its setting but for the excellent customer service provided by the dozen professional and paraprofessional staff. ABOUT YOU:

Our Highly Qualified Candidate is an innovative leader with knowledge of current trends and technologies in libraries. The ideal candidate will be passionate about the library and will thrive in a team-oriented environment. Relationship building, teambuilding, and collaboration with community partners will come naturally to this library leader. The ideal candidate actively develops and maintains community contacts to promote library services and provides leadership, professional expertise, and direction in the planning, structure, strategies,

execution, and evaluation of library initiatives and programs. Our ideal candidate also thrives in a busy library and is highly skilled at supervising a highly engaged and productive staff.

Minimum Qualifications:

Minimum Qualifications:
Equivalent to an American Library Association approved Master's degree in Library Science, Library and Information Services or similar curriculum and three years of experience as a professional librarian. Overall work experience must include two years of supervisory experience which may be obtained in a position other than a professional librarian. Experience using current library technology in the primary area to which assigned is required. Experience in a public library setting is highly desirable.

Special Requirements: The successful candidate will be required to successfully complete a background investigation.

Disaster Service Workers: All County of Marin employees are designated Disaster Service Workers through state and local law (California Government Code Section 3100-3109). Employment with the County requires the affirmation of a loyalty oath to this effect. Employees are required to complete all Disaster Service Worker-related training as assigned, and to return to work as ordered in the event of an emergency.
