Data Librarian

The University of Colorado Boulder (CU Boulder) Libraries invites applications from candidates for the position of Data Librarian, a non-tenure track position in the Center for Research Data and Digital Scholarship (CRDDS). As a part of a highly collaborative team in CRDDS, the Data Librarian provides leadership and support for a range of services related to accessing, using, manipulating, and managing quantitative and other types of scientific data to meet the needs of our community. This position provides outreach, consultation, and instruction in various modalities on topics such as finding and accessing particular types of data, preparing data for analysis, using software for working with data, and managing data. They foster relationships with departments, research institutes, and laboratories in order to provide support across campus, including for the creation of data management plans for grant proposals. The Data Librarian actively contributes to and promotes data curation services in the open access and open source CU Scholar (Samvera) institutional repository as well as in disciplinary data repositories. They work closely with a variety of partners in this work, including subject specialist librarians and experts in fields across campus.

This is a renewable, non-tenure-track faculty position. Successful candidates will be expected to engage in research and professional service activities.

Requirements:

Master's degree in Library and Information Science from an ALA-accredited library program or Ph.D. (or other terminal degree) in another field.
Experience and/or coursework involving use and analysis of quantitative or scientific data.
Demonstrated commitment to a user-centered approach to data services.
Ability to cultivate and advocate for an environment of diversity and inclusion.
Proven dedication to an interdisciplinary and collaborative approach to data services.
Familiarity with one or more applications for working with data.
Excellent interpersonal, presentation, and communication skills.
Demonstrated ability to carry out project-based work.

Desirable Qualifications:
Evidence of any of the following will strengthen candidacy:
Experience providing instruction, consultation, or outreach at the university level.
Demonstrated experience developing and/or implementing policies, procedures, or best practices for data acquisition, access, management, or curation.
Commitment to the value of open and sustainable access to research and scholarship.
Knowledge of key sources of quantitative or scientific data.

Appointment and Salary:
The successful individual will be appointed as full-time (12 month) non-tenure stream faculty member. Depending on professional experience, appointment will be at the instructor or senior instructor level. The minimum starting salary is $66,000. Benefits include 22 working days of vacation, ten paid holidays, sick leave, university group health care plans, group life insurance, TIAA administered retirement/annuity, and support for scholarly/professional activities.
