Position Available: As soon as possible. This is a 100%, twelve-month, permanent Academic Professional position in the University Library.

Duties and Responsibilities: The University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign Library seeks an experienced and forward thinking professional to serve in the position of Cataloging Coordinator. Reporting to the Head of Acquisitions and Cataloging Services (ACS) unit, the Cataloging Coordinator devises, documents, and promulgates cataloging policies and best practices for the Library. Collaborating with other members in the unit, the Cataloging Coordinator provides a leadership role within the Library for all cataloging decisions and workflow that would support the Library’s mission.

Detailed responsibilities include:
Provides professional supervision and instruction for graduate students and staff members
Develops and leads cataloging training for library staff in other technical and public services units as needed
Leads in Library-wide cataloging projects
Develops policies and procedural documentation for cataloging projects
Coordinates the cataloging workflows within the unit and the Library
Conducts research on bibliographic control and catalog standard
Identifies, evaluates, and stays current with cataloging practices, trends and standards
Provides expertise in national cataloging standards to the Library;
Develops and maintains internal cataloging policy and workflow documentation
Participates in NACO/BIBCO works
Resolve difficult cataloging problems as they arise.

Some investigations originating in this manner may evolve into regular work assignments or production activities.

Qualifications
Required:
Master’s degree in Library and Information Science from an ALA-accredited program;
Minimum 2 years of working experience cataloging in academic library setting;
Demonstrated experience with AACR2/RDA and other cataloging rules;
Working experience with OCLC bibliographic and authority databases;
Working experience cataloging with the integrated library system, Alma
Working experience with other cataloging standards and tools, including Library of Congress Subject Headings;
Experience with Library of Congress Classification;
Experience with serials cataloging;
Evidence of supervisory experience;
Reading and writing knowledge of at least one foreign language; with preferential weight given to candidates with demonstrated facility with reading and writing knowledge of non-European languages;
Ability to balance quality and productivity;
Excellent communication and organizational skills.


Preferred:
Experience designing or updating cataloging workflows;
Familiarity with current developments in cataloging standards and initiatives;
Experience using spreadsheet and database applications;
Evidence of supervisory experience.
Ability to work effectively with colleagues in a team environment and to work independently

Terms of Appointment: Twelve-month appointment; 24 annual vacation days; 11 annual paid holidays; 12 annual sick-leave days (cumulative), plus an additional 13 sick-leave days (non-cumulative) available, if needed, each year; health insurance requiring a small co-payment is provided to employee (with the option to purchase coverage for spouse and dependents); required participation in State Universities Retirement System (SURS) (8% of annual salary is withheld and is refundable upon termination), with several options for participation in additional retirement plans; newly-hired employees are covered by the Medicare portion of Social Security and are subject to its deduction.

Salary: Minimum salary is $55,000 and commensurate with credentials and experience.
