Resident Librarian
The University of Wisconsin-Madison General Library System is now seeking candidates for a new Diversity Librarian Residency Program.   The residency will provide entry level librarians from diverse backgrounds an opportunity to develop skills and experience in academic librarianship. This program is designed to meet both the professional goals and interests of the Resident as well as the service and operational priorities of the Library, and to encourage the involvement of diverse populations in academic librarianship
This is a two-year Residency Program designed to encourage and promote professional growth and development of new librarians, providing a broad-based awareness of principles and practices in academic librarianship and an opportunity to develop an area of specialization. With a home base in College Library, the library with primary service to undergraduates, the Resident will perform a variety of duties including reference, instruction, and collection development. This position will be supervised by the Outreach Librarian, with general oversight by the Director of College Library, and will be provided with an inspiring mentor during the two years. During the first year the supervisor will work with the Resident on developing a personal professional development plan in an area of interest. Additional projects and placement in a library or department that meets that interest will be developed for the second year. The second year will culminate with a presentation, poster session or paper on a project fulfilled during the Residency. The Library will also encourage professional development and service activities in the library, on campus, and in the wider academic library community, including conference attendance. Additionally, the General Library System will ensure that the Resident receives additional training in the areas of management and supervision.
