The Diamond Law Library of Columbia University seeks a creative and future-oriented leader as the Head of Cataloging. The incumbent will provide leadership in managing current staff in both original and copy cataloging for all formats and all languages, and will ensure that the highest national standards are met in bibliographic and authority control. The incumbent will work collaboratively with Technical Services and other library colleagues envisioning and implementing evolving services and workflows in innovative ways that improve turn-around time and enhance user services.



Minimum Qualifications:

·        MLS from accredited institutions or the equivalent combination of education and experience (completed by the start date)

·        Strong knowledge of LC Subject Headings and Classification, RDA, NACO, CONSER.

·        Knowledge of OCLC, MarcEdit, and integrated library systems.

·        Proven supervisory skills and ability to work collaboratively with all library departments.

·        Strong record of professional involvement with national and local library associations.

·        Experience working with non-Roman scripts.

·        Excellent communication skills in English and knowledge of 2 foreign languages.

Preferred Qualifications:

·        Knowledge of law classification.

·        Working knowledge of additional foreign languages.

·        Experience managing batch processes.

·        Experience with local catalog maintenance and physical item processing workflows.

·        Familiarity with shelf-ready workflows.

·        Familiarity with emerging standards and applications such as BIBFRAME and linked data.

·        Knowledge of computer programming languages and technologies to create, extract, transform, analyze and manipulate data such as regular expressions, Python, Javascript, Excel, etc.

The Arthur W. Diamond Law Library offers its researchers one of the finest collections of legal materials in the country in both digital and print formats.
