OLLU, founded in 1895 by the Congregation of Divine Providence, is a coeducational comprehensive institution with an enrollment of more than 3,100 students. With its main residential campus in San Antonio and non-traditional programs in San Antonio, Houston, the Rio Grande Valley (La Feria), and online, OLLU has a presence in two of the largest cities in Texas, the border region, and literally around the world.

The University offers more than 30 undergraduate majors and minors, 14 master's programs and two doctoral programs through its College of Arts and Sciences, School of Business and Leadership, School of Professional Studies and the Worden School of Social Service. OLLU offers classes in daytime, evening, weekend and online formats.

Who we serve:
OLLU is a Hispanic-serving institution supporting groundbreaking programs including Social Work with a focus on Hispanic/Latinx families and children; bilingual speech pathology; psychological services for Spanish-speaking populations, and training for bilingual teachers. Seventy-seven percent of OLLU’s undergraduate student population identifies as Hispanic/Latinx and ninety percent are students of color, served by 187 faculty, of which sixty percent are women and forty percent are persons of color.

Mission Statement
The Sueltenfuss Library empowers members of the OLLU Community to pursue wisdom in a dynamic and complex information environment by fostering inquiry, discovery, and learning through quality resources.

Vision Statement
The Sueltenfuss Library will transform its traditional library services and collections to an omnipresent, integrated knowledge resource that engages students and faculty in 21st century learning and scholarship.

Job Description:
Reporting to the Director of the University Library, the Assistant Director of Systems and Metadata oversees the life cycle of library collections and systems with primary responsibility for the management of electronic resources. The selected candidate will employ traditional and emerging library software solutions and metadata standards to provide the best possible experience for the OLLU community as they seek, discover, and access information. The Assistant Director will demonstrate excellent communication and interpersonal skills to collaborate with library personnel, facilitate outreach to faculty,and advocate for library strategic initiatives.

Essential Functions:

Electronic Resource Management
-Manages electronic resource acquisitions and maintenance (including databases, electronic journal subscriptions, eBooks, and streaming film).
-Designs and implements workflows from trial and licensing to purchase and renewal.
-Compiles, analyzes, and reports e-resource usage statistics in support of collection development decision making and library assessment activities.   
-Ensures accurate and reliable access to the library's online and digital resources.   
-Promotes awareness and use of electronic resources.

Collections Management
-Plans, directs, and manages the workflow of selection, acquisition, cataloging, and deaccessioning of library print and electronic material formats, with the exception of special collections and archival materials.
-Participates in collection development of assigned subject areas in collaboration with faculty.
-Determines and manages budgets for books, periodicals, and databases in collaboration with the director of the library.

Systems Management
-Manages the Integrated Library System, World Share Management, and serve as the official liaison with OCLC.   
-Works with the Systems and Web Services Librarian, OLLU ITS, and vendor technical support to manage platforms and servers such as EZProxy, Worldshare Discovery, SpringShare (library website).

Administrative Responsibilities
-Supervises, trains, and evaluates the Systems and Web Services Librarian, Cataloging Librarian, 2 FTE Library Technicians and .5 FTE work study students.
-Project manager for systems and metadata initiatives to ensure resource accessibility in support of an evolving academic information environment. Potential projects include selecting and acquiring an institutional repository and implementation of an electronic resource management platform.
-In collaboration with library personnel, assists the library director to develop policies and initiatives for the library, including strategic planning and collection development.
-Provides assessment of department effectiveness; recommends and implements improvements.   
-Contributes to library assessment efforts including annual unit assessment, accreditation reports, and user satisfaction surveys.
-Promotes cooperation and efficiencies among libraries by serving on committees of regional and statewide academic library consortia.

Faculty Responsibilities   
-Evaluates faculty librarians for annual review and promotion.
-Serves on university and library committees as appropriate.
-Pursues personal professional development; contributes to the profession through scholarship and service to library organizations.

Ancillary Duties
-Provides reference support through desk services, chat, and as part of the evening/weekend rotation.
-Assists in instruction services, library orientations, and/or outreach activities as needed.   
-Performs all other duties as assigned by the Director of the University Library.

Requirements:

Education and Experience:

-Master’s Degree from an American Library Association accredited program.
-Professional experience in an academic library.
-Experience managing an integrated library system.
-Experience managing electronic resources.
-Evidence of increasing levels of responsibility and leadership.
-Experience supervising and managing librarians and/or library staff.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
-Effective interpersonal, organizational, and problem-solving skills with an ability to work with a diverse group of people.
-Proficiency with one or more scripting languages (Python, JavaScript), markup languages (HTML, CSS) and a general understanding of database management (SQL preferred).
-Knowledge of cataloging principles and authority/metadata schema, such as Dublin Core, MARC and RDA.
-Knowledge of emerging trends and practices with library technology and metadata.
-Ability to work effectively in a team setting and independently in a changing environment.
-Model behaviors consistent with University’s Core Values: Trust, Integrity, Community & Service.
-Must respect, support, and contribute to the University’s and Library’s mission and strategic plan.

Preferred Qualifications:
-Second master’s degree or advanced degree.
-Familiarity with image-based or text-based digital repositories (ContentDM, Digital Commons, etc.).
