Resource Description and Management Coordinator
University of Houston Libraries https://libraries.uh.edu/ The Resource Description and Management Coordinator provides leadership and expertise for the resource description and management unit within the Metadata and Digitization Services (MDS) department. Reporting to the Head of MDS, the successful candidate will be responsible for performing ongoing batch process functions, including sets creation, global updates, authority reports, and bibliographic record loads from various systems. In addition to tracking trends, standards, and practices in resource description classification, this person leads quality control activities in the library services platform, including bibliographic, item, and authority records, and transfer and withdrawal projects. As a leader in the department, the Resource Description and Management Coordinator is responsible for developing and documenting policies and procedures, providing training for staff in the use of the library services platform, and mentoring employees in planning and goal-setting. This person also supervises a team of two full-time librarians, four full-time classified staff employees, and student workers. The successful candidate will have opportunities to work in a team-based environment and collaborate across the libraries to set priorities and ensure alignment with UH Libraries and university goals. They will be encouraged and supported to develop skills in the areas of supervision, leadership, and project management. Required Qualifications: · Master’s degree from an ALA-accredited library program · Experience with current resource description standards/formats (RDA, LCSH, LCC, and MARC) and OCLC systems and functions · Experience with library services platforms, such as Ex Libris Alma, for resource description, batch data retrieval, reports, and global update functionalities · Ability to work effectively in a collaborative environment Preferred Qualifications: · Familiarity with bibliographic authority control (NACO) and maintenance · Knowledge of BIBFRAME, linked data, wikidata, and semantic web concepts · Knowledge of archival and rare materials description standards, such as DACS and DCRM · Supervisory experience · Leadership or project management experience Salary: $68,000 to 70,000 expected hiring range, depending on qualifications. Comprehensive benefits package; choice of retirement programs including TIAA; tax-deferred annuity program available; release time to take a class up to 3 hours/week; no state or local income tax.
