This is a 40% part-time, 2-year temporary position. Posted salary will be reduced commensurate with percent of appointment.

Located in Sylmar, CA, Olive View – UCLA Medical Center is operated by the County of Los Angeles in partnership with the David Geffen School of Medicine at UCLA. An affiliated, public teaching hospital, Olive View has served the communities in the northern San Fernando Valley since its establishment in the early 1920s as a tuberculosis sanitarium. Olive View is home to more than 150 dynamic faculty members spanning 12 clinical departments, and each year, hosts over 225 resident physicians and fellows in 15+ University clinical training programs. Both faculty members and house staff are actively engaged in scholarship, medical education, and clinical research.

David Geffen School of Medicine, Dean’s Office - Olive View is seeking applications/nominations for the part-time position of Medical Librarian for Olive View – UCLA Medical Center, an affiliated teaching hospital located in Sylmar.

Reporting to the Chief Medical Officer, the Medical Librarian provides a broad range of reference services, information literacy, circulation, and technical services for the daily operations of the Library.

Specific duties and responsibilities include:

·        Coordinates document delivery, including obtaining articles from academic journals and scholarly periodicals, and arranging inter-library loans from participating institutions.
·        Conducts literature review to support clinical research, identifies source materials and relevant citations.
·        Manages the library budget in conjunction with Medical Administration; verifies the accuracy of invoices for journal subscriptions and similar resources.
·        Participates in the Department of Health Services (DHS) library consortium.
·        Maintains the library Intranet site; ensures that links to external and electronic resources are functional and up-to-date.
·        Provides periodic in-service training to clinical departments on library resource utilization, including an orientation for interns in medical education programs based at the hospital.
·        Maintains the physical library space.

Required Qualifications:
·        ALA-accredited Master’s degree in Library and/or Information Science OR significant graduate-level coursework toward such a degree OR equivalent education and experience (subject expertise combined with professional library education and/or experience).
·        Prior experience working in an academic or research library setting.
·        Experience providing research, instruction, and/or outreach services to students and faculty.
·        Excellent communication, analytical, organizational, and interpersonal skills.

Desired Qualifications
·        Working knowledge of library instruction, reference, circulation, and technical services, processes, and procedures.
·        Experience with collection development.

Appointees to the librarian series at UC shall have professional backgrounds that demonstrate a high degree of creativity, teamwork, and flexibility. Such background will normally include a professional degree from an ALA-accredited library and information science graduate program. In addition to professional competence and quality of service within the library in the primary job, advancement in the librarian series requires professional involvement and contributions outside of the library, and/or university and community service, and/or scholarly activities.
