Manager, Library Services

The University of Texas at San Antonio Libraries seeks forward-thinking, dynamic, service-oriented applicants for the position of Manager, Library Services. Reporting to the Head of Access Services, the Manager, Library Services is responsible for providing coordination, services, and additional management for a major functional area of library programs and services, applying advanced knowledge of library practices and procedures.

Responsibilities
•     Manages and supervises a large unit that provides services to patrons including resource discovery, collections access, circulation, and library academic support services.
•     Collaborates with the Head of Access Services and the Library Services Manager at the Downtown Campus to provide consistent fulfillment policies across the libraries.
•     Trains staff and oversees use of Ex Libris Alma, ILLiad, and other library systems, which include functionality related to circulation, course reserves, and document delivery.
•     Acts as a project manager for specific library projects, including establishing routines, verifying work, and supervising staff. Also, serves on library-wide governance committees to provide input at meetings and reports back to Access Services and department head.
•     Plans workflow, formulates policies and procedures, establishes standards of work assignments, develops guidelines, and provides for staff development of a team of Library Service Assistants.
•     Interviews, hires, and evaluates unit staff based on Library and University policies and procedures. Counsels, coaches, and trains staff.
•     Responsible for overseeing the use of library spaces and equipment to promote a safe and secure learning environment, coordinating with University Facilities, Safety, and Police departments as necessary. Space oversight includes John Peace Library, Applied Engineering & Technology Library, and occasionally, Downtown Campus Library.
•     Resolves employee and/or patron issues with authority to make decisions or exceptions within functional area.
•     Interacts regularly with faculty, staff, students, other university departments, and external agencies in response to a wide variety of patron information needs and maintenance of library resources and facilities.
•     Keeps abreast of changes in trends and technology in the appropriate functional area and initiates changes as necessary.

Minimum Qualifications
•     High School graduation or GED.
•     Six years of specialized experience in academic library related to a functional area to include management-level experience. College education may substitute for two years of the required experience on a year-for-year basis (30 credit hours = 1 year of experience).
•     One year of supervisory experience.
•     Excellent verbal and written communication
•     skills.
•     Demonstrated effective interpersonal skills.
•     Ability to interact in a professional manner with faculty, staff, students and the public.

Preferred Qualifications
•     Bachelor’s degree or other specialized training or knowledge.
•     Seven or more years of specialized experience in academic library related to a functional area to include management-level experience.
•     Experience using Ex Libris Alma to circulate materials to library patrons.
•     Two or more years of supervising full-time equivalent staff members.

Salary: $32,000; flexible depending upon experience
