Research Librarian for Digital Humanities
The University of California, Irvine Libraries seeks a creative, knowledgeable, collaborative, and user-oriented professional for the position of Research Librarian for Digital Humanities.
This librarian is an integral part of UCI Libraries’ Digital Scholarship Services (DSS) Department (https://www.lib.uci.edu/dss) and is a highly sought-after instructor, consultant, and collaborator both within the Libraries and across the UCI campus. The Librarian provides instruction and consultation services for digital humanities research, provides technical support on project work, contributes to digital humanities projects, and serves as the subject liaison to African American Studies.

Requirements Qualifications
  • Graduate degree in library science from an ALA-accredited institution or an equivalent combination of relevant advanced degree and library experience.
  • Knowledge of and experience with digital humanities tools and methodologies, such as text mining, data visualization, image analysis, sentiment analysis, text, image, and/or network analysis, and common scripting languages.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of current issues in digital humanities.
  • Educational background or experience sufficient to perform subject-specialized reference, instruction, collection development, and collaborative projects in African American Studies.
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills, as well as effectiveness in balancing and completing multiple assignments and projects.
  • Demonstrated initiative, flexibility and ability to work creatively and effectively both independently and as a team member.
  • Excellent communications and interpersonal skills.
  • Strong public presentation skills.
  • Successful teaching experience in a library or in higher education.
  • Commitment to user-centered library services.
  • Demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion, and justice.
  • Ability to work creatively, collaboratively, and effectively and to promote teamwork, diversity, equity, and inclusiveness within the UCI Libraries and the campus.
  • Ability to meet the University of California criteria for advancement and promotion.
  • Advanced educational background in African American Studies, or related subject area
  • Experience providing reference, instruction, and collection development in an academic library setting
  • Experience with outreach, programming, and grant writing
