The La Grange Park Public Library District has been enriching lives in the community for 50 years. The Board of Trustees seeks a dynamic, energetic Executive Director to lead an outstanding staff and continue our mission of being a welcoming and inclusive community center connecting residents to informational, cultural, and educational resources.
La Grange Park, Illinois, is a suburban village located approximately 14 miles west of Chicago. Nestled between forest preserves, the 13,500 residents enjoy great parks, excellent schools and a variety of housing options. Many long-time residents of La Grange Park find their grown children returning “home” to settle with their own young families. La Grange Park is an active, caring community that embraces our history and plans for the future.
Our new Director will:

work closely with a 7-member elected Board of Trustees
-
oversee, organize, and administer policies set forth by the Board

coordinate with the Friends who maintain an ongoing book sale and host a variety of fundraisers in support of Library initiatives

nurture existing excellent relationships among other government entities

have experience promoting services to stakeholders

possess top-notch communication and listening skills

foster career progression and opportunities for the staff

oversee a long-awaited renovation project – after much planning La Grange Park is ready to embark on an exciting renovation that will enhance our current offerings as well as bring us into the future
Responsibilities include:

oversees all Library services to the public and the operation of the Library within the limitations of the working budget

stays informed about new developments in the field

develops the services of the Library to more effectively meet present and future community needs

Requirements |
Qualifications include a Master’s Degree in Library Science from an ALA-Accredited program and at least 5 years of recent public library experience and 3 years supervisory experience. The candidate must have highly developed interpersonal skills, experience promoting services to stakeholders, awareness of budgeting and fiscal matters, and strong leadership capabilities. The Director provides and maintains a healthy environment for the recruitment, evaluation, and development of employees. |
