Reference Librarian
Position Summary:
The Reference Librarian answers questions about legislation, legislative procedure, and state government as well as general reference questions. The librarian assists legislators, legislative staff, and students using State Library resources during phone, email, instant message chat, and in-person interactions. This librarian also serves as the Federal Depository Coordinator for the State Library as required by the Federal Depository Library Program. When the legislature is not in session, this position performs basic cataloging and provides database support for the Kansas Government Information Online Library program. Other work as assigned includes writing blog entries, updating web pages, and developing research guides.

Requirements |
Minimum Qualifications:
- Either enrolled in (with an anticipated completion date no later than December 31, 2023) OR completed a Master’s degree from an ALA-accredited institution
- Experience with the Microsoft Windows system and Microsoft Office applications.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Previous experience working in a library environment
- Course work or job experience in reference services, cataloging, collection development, technical services, and/or customer services
Special Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Communicate effectively both orally and in writing
- Establish and maintain effective working relationships
