Program and Events Coordinator, Cambridge Public Library (MA)

With input from Library Administration and Leadership Team, the Program and Event Coordinator plans a dynamic slate of library programs, events, and exhibits and ensures a positive experience for presenters and attendees. 

  • Coordinate, plan, and execute public programs, events, and exhibits both in-person and online that advance the Library's mission, vision, values, and strategic priorities.
  • Liaise and build strong relationships with City departments, community groups, universities, book publishers; leverage those relationships to promote the Library as a destination for local, regional, and national talent, especially BIPOC authors.
  • Foster a culture that embraces change, innovation, and continuous improvement.
  • Manage event timelines and assigned budgets.
  • Coordinate with library staff and City departments to organize event logistics such as room setup, audiovisual equipment, live streaming, refreshments, book sales, presenter payment, and more. May pick up, greet, and introduce presenters.
  • Extend the community's access to programming through recording and livestreaming technology and partnerships with organizations such as 22-CityView and CCTV.
  • Work with manager to develop and implement library publicity, marketing, and outreach. Write promotional copy and coordinate with other staff to create and disseminate print and digital promotions.
  • Act as a primary contact for all room and program requests. Use personal vehicle as needed in support of programs and events.
  • Communicate and apply Library policies and procedures; address and resolve patron issues.
  • Any other duties as required for the good of the Library.

37.5 hours per week. Monday – Friday 8:30 am – 5 pm. A flexible schedule is required, including working evenings, Saturdays, and Sundays in support of programs and events.

Requirements
  • A bachelor's degree or coursework beyond high school level is strongly preferred.
  • Personal vehicle and valid driver's license are strongly preferred.
  • Two years of experience in customer service, event planning, library programming and/or hospitality is strongly preferred. Strong customer service skills and commitment to public service
  • Fluency in a language in addition to English is preferred.
  • Knowledge and understanding of the Library's mission, vision, values, and strategic priorities.
  • Commitment to doing all work through a lens of diversity, equity, inclusion, and anti-racism.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills, organizational and project management skills, with the ability to set priorities, attend to many details and meet deadlines.
  • Exemplary interpersonal skills, with the ability to foster teamwork and work collaboratively with peers and diverse groups of people from different departments and organizations. Sound judgment and problem-solving skills, with the ability to handle unexpected situations.
  • Proficiency and comfort with technology, including audiovisual equipment, booking software, and social media.
  • Flexibility to meet staffing needs during vacation periods and in emergencies.
