As a joint library facility with San Jose Public Library’s main branch, and a member of the 23-campus California State University system, University Library employees frequently work with multiple external stakeholders and partners across a breadth of institutions. The Acquisitions and Collection Management Head reports to the Senior Director of Resource Management and Delivery. The incumbent works respectfully and cooperatively with employees of the Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Library to perform duties under limited supervision and works independently to achieve specified outcomes. The purpose of this position is to oversee and support the work of the Acquisitions and Collection Management unit providing leadership, supervision and planning, establishing policies and procedures, and organizing workflows for the successful operation of the unit. The Head provides work direction and oversight to five library staff positions in the areas of materials acquisition, data analytics, shared print programs, contract renewals and negotiations, and e-resource activation.
The Acquisitions and Collection Management Head meets as appropriate with department/unit heads, library administrators, campus personnel, and CSU system-wide colleagues, ensuring that unit programs and plans support library, campus and CSU goals. The incumbent keeps the Senior Director of Resource Management and Delivery informed of significant issues and developments in the unit, and communicates appropriate information from library administration and other library units to Acquisitions and Collection Management staff. This position serves on Library leadership teams that set priorities and goals for services and determine Library operational strategies, policies and procedures.
