About Digital Library Services
The Digital Library Services (DLS) department is the center for the production and dissemination of digitized holdings from the Libraries, university, and state partners, and contributes to the acquisition and development of technologies to support the discovery and preservation of these materials. DLS is a highly collaborative environment, providing stewardship for digitized assets throughout their lifecycle, from creation, metadata application, ingest, and discovery, through long-term preservation. Working closely with other Library departments, campus, state, and regional partners, DLS employees apply their expertise in project management, digital collection management, copyright, exhibit curation, digitization and capture, descriptive metadata, linked open data, information architecture, user interface design, accessibility, and digital preservation to aid the Libraries' mission and positively impact the university and the state of Oregon.
Position Summary
Reporting to the Director of Digital Library Services, the Digital Collections Metadata Librarian provides strategic leadership and management of digital collections metadata, including consultation, design, training, and development of services and initiatives to facilitate the use of digital assets in research and education. The Digital Collections Metadata Librarian creates original descriptive metadata and enhances local and external authorities and controlled vocabularies to support the discovery and use of digital assets. This position coordinates the selection and implementation of relevant metadata standards and linked open data sources and develops and documents local policies, critical cataloging methods, and workflows to promote interoperability across systems. The position provides metadata training and consultation to individuals and groups across the Libraries, as well as faculty, classified employees, and students at UO, and state and regional partners, and serves as a member of the Oregon Digital development team.
This position participates in appropriate professional development and service activities to stay current with trends and practices in the field and to meet the criteria for promotion and retention. Contributes to the advancement of the Libraries' mission and strategic directions related to issues of equity, inclusion, accessibility, and social justice.

Minimum Requirements
Minimum qualifications for the rank of Assistant Librarian:
• Master's Degree in Library/Information Science from an ALA-accredited institution.
• Two years minimum experience cataloging in metadata standards and authority control (e.g. Dublin Core, MODS, VRA Core, EAD, DACs, etc.)
Minimum qualifications for the rank of Associate Librarian:
• Master's Degree in Library/Information Science from an ALA-accredited institution.
• Two years minimum experience cataloging in metadata standards and authority control (e.g. Dublin Core, MODS, VRA Core, EAD, DACs, etc.)
• Six (6) years of post-MLIS (or the international equivalent) of progressively responsible library leadership experience in an academic or research library, including supervisory experience.
Professional Competencies
• Demonstrated proficiency in creating metadata for cultural heritage objects and digital collections management.
• Effective communication, organizational, and analytical skills suitable for a team environment.
• Problem-solving skills, with the ability to make evidence-based decisions, and manage workload, priorities, and deadlines to achieve goals.
• Experience using applications, scripts, or other data manipulation tools to process metadata.
• Experience creating workflows, policies, guidelines, and other documentation for projects.
• Ability to evaluate, improve, and optimize workflows of metadata projects.
• Commitment to promoting and enhancing diversity, equity, and inclusion.
Preferred Qualifications
• Experience working with Samvera-based DAMS.
• Experience supervising and/or training faculty, staff, or students.
• Experience developing digital collection services and initiatives.
• Knowledge of the complete lifecycle of digital objects, collections and projects.
• Knowledge of Linked Data and its application to library and cultural heritage projects.
• Knowledge of critical cataloging methodologies.
