After School Tutor
The mission of the New York Public Library is to inspire lifelong learning, advance knowledge, and strengthen our communities. To deliver on this promise, we provide free access to physical and electronic resources in neighborhoods throughout the Bronx, Manhattan, and Staten Island, as well as an array of educational and cultural programming for children, young adults and adults.

The Library’s 90+ locations include four research centers – focusing on the humanities and social sciences; the performing arts; Black history and culture; and business and industry – and 88 neighborhood libraries. Collectively, the NYPL is the largest information purveyor in the City, serving over 18 million patrons annually.

Through the NYPL’s Education Department, the library provides centrally-planned and funded enrichment programming for children, young adults and adults that is deployed to its neighborhood branches, and each branch organizes its own additional programming through the use of branch staff and local volunteers.

The NYPL is hiring Tutors to provide homework help and enrichment activities to elementary grade students in 7 branch libraries.

Tutors will work either 16 hours per week, M-Th, during the program hours of approximately 3-6PM with additional hours required for professional development, meetings, and preparation, or 8 hours per week on either Mondays and Wednesdays or Tuesdays and Thursdays during those same times. Tutors will work through June 16, 2022. Tutors will not be scheduled to work the weeks of December 20, December 27, February 21, April 18, nor will they be scheduled to work during any federal holidays.
