User Access Librarian
The University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB) Libraries seek an innovative, creative, and dynamic professional for the newly created position of User Access Librarian. This position will collaborate with Library faculty and staff to optimize User Access services and functions, including patron access, user experience, and physical library spaces. Reporting to the UAB Libraries’ Assistant Dean for Public Services, this is a full-time 12-month non-tenure track faculty position at the initial rank of Instructor or Assistant Professor.

Essential Responsibilities
• Work closely with the Assistant Dean for Public Services to expand and enhance user services and experiences through the User Access Department
• Streamline and implement User Access policies, procedures, and workflows across the entire UAB Libraries organization
• Develop training materials, tutorials, and guides to educate library staff and student workers on using Alma for various purposes, including new features.
• Partner with the UAB Libraries’ Emerging Technology & System Development Department on matters related to fulfillment and patron records in the Ex Libris Alma Library Service Platform (LSP)
• Participate in the planning, testing, and implementation of User Access related Alma enhancements, integrations, and updates
• Assist with future patron-centered technological solutions in User Access such as self-checkout, space reservation systems, and loanable technology, in collaboration with other library departments
• Perform general circulation services, including assistance with staffing the front-line patron service desks, as needed
• Troubleshoot common User Access issues and respond to inquiries about public-facing library systems and interfaces relating to User Access
• Engage in research, publication, and professional service as required of UAB Libraries’ faculty

Requirements American Library Association (ALA) accredited master’s degree or other advanced degree(s) appropriate to the position
• Professional library experience, preferably in the public services area
• Excellent customer service skills, including the ability to effectively interact with others in a diverse academic environment
• Strong organizational skills with proven success in independently managing and prioritizing multiple projects and managing deadlines
• Ability to support and enhance a diverse learning and working environment
• Excellent oral, written, and interpersonal communications skills

Preferred: Professional experience in the areas of library circulation, course reserves, or assessment
• Experience using or supporting Alma or another Library Service Platform (LSP)
• Experience using Springshare tools and products
• Demonstrated strong analytical and problem-solving skills
• Ability to thrive in a collaborative environment and take initiative on independent projects
