USC Libraries at the University of Southern California (Los Angeles, CA) invites creative, collaborative, and outstanding candidates to fill the three full-time continuing appointment-track faculty positions listed above with an anticipated start date of Summer 2022. Faculty rank commensurate with experience.

We are looking for candidates with experience in providing information services in an academic or health sciences library setting; experience delivering information literacy instruction online and in-person; and a commitment to high quality user experience.

Desirable qualifications for these positions include:

Performing Arts Librarian (#373): Knowledge of performing arts librarianship with a particular focus on dance and/or dramatic arts; broad knowledge of library instruction in an academic setting including primary source literacy and instruction. Social & Behavioral Sciences Librarian (#374): Graduate degree or graduate coursework in a social or behavioral science; experience using instructional technology to improve learning outcomes; knowledge of systematic reviews methods. Information Services Librarian, Wilson Dental Library (#375): Experience and knowledge of health sciences information resources; experience with library outreach to academic disciplines and to a diverse population on and off campus; knowledge of evidence-based practice and/or evidence-based dentistry. Starting minimum salary for faculty at USC: $66,000. Salary and rank commensurate with experience and qualifications.

Performing Arts Librarian (#373)

Position Responsibilities and Duties:

Reporting to the Head, Music Library, the Performing Arts Librarian will:

Lead undergraduate and graduate library instruction in relevant performing arts disciplinary areas in collaboration with the libraries’ Information Literacy program

Develop course content, support materials, and assignments as needed in collaboration with teaching faculty

Participate in the Specialized Collections reference desk and patron management including involvement in collection maintenance duties

Engage in curation of new and existing special collections materials in the area of performing arts

Engage in activities that improve services and resources aligned with the USC Libraries’ commitment to equity, diversity, inclusion, and anti-racism

Engage in professional and/or subject discipline organizations, research, or publishing that will have a significant, positive impact and advance the strategic plans of the USC Libraries and the University

Duties may include weekend and evening hours

Other duties as assigned

Social & Behavioral Sciences Librarian (#374)

Position Responsibilities and Duties:

Reporting to the Head, Education, Social Work & Gerontology Library Services, the Social and Behavioral Sciences Librarian will:

Provide instruction, research consultations and outreach services to graduate programs in the School of Social Work; other subjects in the social and behavioral studies areas may be included as warranteed

Develop online tutorials, modules, and other asynchronous materials in collaboration with the libraries’ Information Literacy program

Work collaboratively with librarians, faculty, and students on emerging social science research methodologies, such as systematic reviews and evidence-based research syntheses

Participate in the USC Libraries reference, user engagement, and instruction programs

Engage in professional and/or subject discipline organizations, research, or publishing that will have a significant, positive impact and advance the vision and mission of the USC Libraries and the University

Engage in activities that improve services and resources aligned with the USC Libraries’ commitment to equity, diversity, inclusion, and anti-racism

Duties may include weekend and evening hours

Other duties as assigned

Additional Desirable Qualifications

Experience using information literacy standards and frameworks to improve learning outcomes

Demonstrated ability in developing and implementing curricular-based instructional services in an online environment

Information Services Librarian, Wilson Dental Library (#375)

Position Responsibilities and Duties:

Reporting to the Head, Wilson Dental Library, the Information Services Librarian, Wilson Dental Library will:

Coordinate, execute, and assess online and in-person reference activities for the Wilson Dental Library, and participate in chat and email reference service for the USC Libraries

Oversee educational programming and information literacy instruction for the Herman Ostrow School of Dentistry in collaboration with the libraries’ Information Literacy program

Collaborate with dental faculty to develop, provide, and assess dynamic curriculum-based information literacy instruction for dentistry courses, including problem-based learning and evidence-based dentistry modules

Create and maintain student portal pages and subject-specific LibGuides

Participate in collection development and management

Participate in outreach and assessment of services and programs

Engage in activities that improve services and resources aligned with the USC Libraries’ commitment to equity, diversity, inclusion, and anti-racism

Engage in professional and/or subject discipline organizations, research, or publishing that will have a significant, positive impact and advance the strategic plans of the USC Libraries and the University

Duties may include weekend and evening hours

Other duties as assigned

Additional Desirable Qualification:

Knowledge of systematic review needs in the health sciences fields


Minimum qualifications: A MLS degree from an ALA-accredited program or international equivalent is typically required. Professional library experience or relevant course work and demonstrated experience in one or more of the areas outlined above are required.
