Humanities and European Studies Catalog Librarian
Job Title:  Humanities and European Studies Catalog Librarian, FT Faculty, may be filled with a visitor
Job Classification:  CFS-Professional

Required Degree: MLS from an ALA-accredited institution including training in cataloging.
Experience:   
  • Additional degree and/or experience with humanities, art, art history, European studies, or a related field in an academic environment preferred
  • Reading and speaking level experience with one or more Germanic or Slavic languages is preferred
  • Working knowledge of name and subject authority standards and formats (NACO, SACO)
  • Knowledge and skills in metadata input systems and databases (SirsiDynix, OCLC preferred)
  • The ability to develop and pursue a plan of continuous learning to keep abreast of issues, trends, and scholarship in librarianship and assigned subject or functional areas
  • Willingness and desire to interact with students and faculty, to put student-centeredness above all other professional pursuits, and to contribute to a campus culture of unity, love, and belonging
Duties/Expectations
  • Performs original and complex descriptive cataloging of books and other materials in all formats and for all locations for humanities, art, art history, and European studies disciplines and in Germanic and Slavic languages
  • Maintains metadata in both local (SirsiDynix Symphony) and national utilities (OCLC) by enhancing records and contributing original cataloging as necessary
  • Contributes to shared-cataloging programs (BIBCO)
  • Performs authority work for personal names, corporate names, titles, series, and subjects and makes modifications to and contributes records to national authority files through the NACO and SACO programs
  • Stays abreast of issues and trends in cataloging and metadata standards and practices and humanities, European studies, and European language scholarship and disciplinary discussions.
