Instructional Designer for Research, Teaching, and Learning
Davidson College's E.H. Little Library is seeking an Instructional Designer for Research, Teaching, and Learning to join our award-winning team (2021 ACRL Excellence in Academic Libraries Award). Those with either a background in instructional design or librarianship are encouraged to apply. The position has a focus on open pedagogy and is a great opportunity for those passionate about open educational practices. 

Job Summary:
The Instructional Designer for Research, Teaching, and Learning will help lead the successful implementation of research and instructional design initiatives within the residential liberal arts context. As a member of the library’s Research, Learning, and Outreach team, they will partner to support the implementation and integration of current and emerging technologies for research, teaching, and learning, support peer consultant programming, and provide course-integrated information and digital literacy instruction. They will also develop and lead new approaches connected to open educational practices (OEP), including outreach, education, creation, and promotion of open educational resources (OER) and open access (OA) materials in support of open pedagogy. The position requires strong knowledge of learning theories, instructional design, broad experience with digital scholarship tools, and a firm commitment to open pedagogy and the design of inclusive learning environments.

Requirements

Essential Qualifications:

  • Professional certification or advanced degree in instructional design, educational technology, librarianship, or related field.

  • At least two years of progressively responsible experience in instructional design, with in-depth knowledge of pedagogical principles and practices.

  • Demonstrated experience designing and delivering high quality faculty development and/or instructional programming to students. 

  • Proficiency with applications and technologies used in teaching, learning, and scholarship, including experience with learning management systems, website design, and core digital scholarship tools.

  • Commitment to continuous assessment and improvement with experience identifying, establishing, and reporting on learning, project, and team-based metrics and outcomes.

  • Commitment to open pedagogical practices. 

  • Knowledge of how to create and curate open educational resources.  

  • Service-oriented with excellent writing and communication skills, including the ability to communicate technical information in a compelling and empowering way.

  • Ability to build effective relationships and strong commitment to working collegially and collaboratively with constituents at all levels in a diverse environment.

  • Project management skills, with ability to effectively manage competing priorities and work collaboratively across organizational boundaries. 

Desired (but not required) Qualifications:

  • Experience teaching in face-to-face and online environments. 

  • Experience working with college-aged students and an understanding of their information and digital experiences, requirements, and needs. 

  • Experience developing peer tutor training. 

  • Experience assisting faculty with open educational resource initiatives.
