Emerging Technologies/AI Librarian - Assistant Professor
The Dr. C.C. and Mabel L. Criss Library at the University of Nebraska at Omaha invites applications for a 12-month, full-time, tenure-track faculty Emerging Technologies and AI Librarian with a negotiable start date during the Spring 2026 semester. We are looking for a curious and thoughtful innovator to lead the development and delivery of research and instruction services focused on artificial intelligence and digital literacy at Criss Library.  
As part of a collaborative team, the Emerging Technologies and AI Librarian leads efforts in Criss Library to design and implement resources, tools, and workflows that support effective AI use in library research and teaching, and champions the ethical, equitable, and responsible integration of AI technologies. The ideal candidate for this position is a confident teaching librarian who is able to provide consultation and support to students and faculty integrating AI and other emerging technologies into the academic research process. The Emerging Technologies and AI Librarian works closely with Criss Library colleagues and campus partners, including the Division of Innovative and Learning-Centric Initiatives, the Center for Faculty Excellence, and General Education on projects involving transformative technologies, ensuring the library stays at the forefront of emerging trends and innovations in research.  
The Emerging Technologies and AI Librarian represents Criss Library in AI-related initiatives at the college, university, and NU system levels, serves as the subject specialist for the College of Information Science & Technology, which offers Nebraska’s first Artificial Intelligence bachelor’s degree, and fulfills faculty responsibilities in librarianship, scholarship, and service.

Requirements

Required Qualifications:

  • A master's degree in library or information sciences from an American Library Association-accredited institution.? 
  • Minimum of 5 years experience with information literacy or library instruction in an academic or research library.? 
  • Demonstrated experience with AI research tools and the ethical, effective integration of AI into the research process. 
  • Strong understanding of emerging technologies, including AI, and their impact on academic libraries and higher education. Demonstrated ability to communicate complex information, AI literacy, and digital literacy concepts to faculty, students, and staff. 
  • Experience working collaboratively with multiple stakeholders in a rapidly changing technological environment. 
  • Excellent organizational, planning, interpersonal, communication and written skills.? 
  • Demonstrated ability to set and attain goals effectively.
