Asst/Assoc Professor and Reference & Liaison Librarian (Business and Economics)

University of Illinois Chicago (UIC) invites applications from innovative and service-oriented librarians to fill a tenure system faculty appointment supporting the UIC College of Business Administration (CBA) and the Department of Economics in the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences. Rank will be at either assistant or associate level, dependent upon experience and stature in the field. The Business and Economics Liaison will be the point person for research assistance, information literacy instruction and collection development in support of the curriculum and the faculty research at the CBA, the Department of Economics in LAS, and business-related research across campus.

Reporting to the Head of Research Services and Resources, the Business and Economics Liaison will be the point person for research assistance, information literacy instruction and collection development in support of the curriculum and the faculty research at the CBA, the Department of Economics in LAS, and business-related research across campus. The Business and Economics Librarian will work closely with the faculty and administration of the CBA and the Department of Economics to ensure that the University Library is able to meet their research and pedagogical needs and to increase awareness of library resources. As a member of the Research Services and Resources department, the successful candidate will also support general reference and instruction programming for first-year student success across disciplines.

This tenure-track appointment includes the expectation that the faculty member will be actively engaged in and significantly contribute to the profession through research/scholarship and service related to professional and scholarly interests. This includes publication, presentation, and committee work at various levels. Support for scholarship and professional development, including funding, research leave, and mentoring, are provided to foster candidate success. Expectations are further outlined in the norms for tenure track appointments.

The UIC Liautaud Graduate School of Business serves 300 students in six masters programs: MBA, Master of Accounting, Master of Business Analytics, Master of Finance, Master of Management Information Systems, and Master of Marketing. Two doctoral programs offer the PhD in Business Administration and the PhD in Management Information Systems.

Requirements
  • Master’s degree in Library Science from an ALA-accredited program or a non-US equivalent by the start of employment
  • Academic coursework in business and/or experience using business information sources in a professional setting
  • Demonstrated commitment to fostering an environment of diversity, equity, and inclusion

  • Experience in an academic, public, or corporate library with subject responsibilities in business
