Archivist - University & Labor Archives
Job Summary
The University & Labor Archivist applies an advanced level of professional skills to all aspects of administration of archival records, manuscript and photograph collections in all formats. The archivist must demonstrate a commitment to developing and highlighting collections that support the Libraries’ justice, equity, diversity, and inclusion initiatives and reflect UTA Community. This is a non-tenure track position.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Coordinates appraisal, acquisition, description, storage, access to, and preservation of University records, Texas labor, Texas political, Texas disability history, historical manuscript and photograph collections in all formats; prioritizes developing and creating access to collections from diverse persons and communities; advocates for and educates on opportunities of open archives.

Manages student assistants and interns in processing archival collections and developing students’ professional skills.

Proactively builds partnerships across the University and the community at large; deeply engaged in building relationships with communities to support collecting, preserving, and showcasing diverse perspectives and documents in the history of UTA and the State of Texas, particularly the Dallas-Fort Worth area.

Works as assigned at service desk providing reference assistance for all areas of Special Collections.

Collaborates with faculty, Libraries’ public services staff, and community partners to fully integrate archives into research, curricula, and the student experience and positively engage with our diverse community. This includes inclusive outreach to UTA and broader regional communities and contributing content to Special Collections social media, FWST Time Frames feature articles, and Wikipedia/Wikimedia projects.

Requirements |
- Master’s degree in library or information science from an ALA-accredited program or a master’s degree in archival studies, history, or other closely related field, with a concentration in archival management and theory or the equivalent experience.
- Experience working in a special collections and/or university archives including reference and/or archival processing, arrangement, and description of collection materials.
- Demonstrated experience working in and fostering a diverse faculty, staff, and student environment or commitment to do so as member of the UTA community.
