Advisory Services Librarian
Under the supervision of the supervisor for advisory services, is responsible for providing excellent customer service to all library patrons. Provides reading and viewing advisory services, programming, and oversees Advisory workgroup focused initiatives such as Bookmatch.&nbsp;<br /> <br /> <strong>Essential Functions:</strong> <ul> <li>Aids patrons in use of the library&rsquo;s resources; helps connect users to materials by engaging in conversations around books, movies, and other collection items and suggesting other items of interest</li> <li>Creates appropriate advisory aids, including bibliographies, book/movie reviews, and other promotional materials&nbsp;</li> <li>Applies and integrates principles of diversity, equity, inclusion, and accessibility to provide strong and equitable collection recommendations and book discussions</li> <li>Oversees our asynchronistic recommendation services (Bookmatch and Screenmatch): ensures Matches are sent out on time, transfers patron emails to Basecamp, trains staff on the service, proofreads, serves as final eyes on collaborative matches, and sends out finalized lists</li> <li>Trains staff in Advisory and on advisory tools and aids&nbsp;</li> <li>Leads book discussions and participates in other library programming efforts</li> <li>Participates in promotional and social media campaigns for our materials&nbsp;&nbsp;</li> <li>Coordinates with the supervisor of neighborhood engagement on the Advisory workgroup&#39;s outreach to homebound patrons, provides advisory services to homebound patrons in collaboration with advisory specialists</li> <li>In collaboration with the advisory supervisor, plans and executes seasonal reading programs.</li> <li>Contributes to merchandising efforts by helping to maintain displays</li> <li>Continues to develop a broad knowledge of popular materials by reading, listening, and viewing in many genres and formats</li> <li>Maintains current knowledge of library and other relevant fields&nbsp;&nbsp;</li> <li>Reads professional literature&nbsp;&nbsp;</li> <li>Regular, predictable, and punctual attendance</li> </ul> <strong>Other Functions:</strong> <ul> <li>May teach classes for library patrons</li> <li>May engage with the community through special projects involving library promotion and outreach activities</li> <li>Attends professional meetings; may serve on professional association committees</li> <li>Performs other related duties as assigned</li> </ul> <strong>Working Conditions:</strong><br /> The physical demands and environmental characteristics described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. Salary: The annual pay range for new hires in this position is $52,640 to $65,800. Offers are made within this range based on competencies, experience, and internal equity.

Requirements <strong>Minimum Qualifications:</strong> <ul> <li>Masters of Library Science from an ALA-accredited library school</li> <li>At least two years of readers and viewers advisory experience</li> <li>Experience providing direct customer service</li> </ul> <strong>Minimum</strong> <strong>Competencies:</strong> (knowledge, skills, and abilities) <ul> <li>Broad knowledge of books, movies, and pop culture&nbsp;</li> <li>Experience facilitating reading programs and book discussions for adults&nbsp;</li> <li>Excellent written and verbal communication and social skills</li> <li>Deep personal dedication to public service and strong customer service skills</li> <li>Broad cultural competency knowledge and skills, and ability to work effectively with a culturally diverse workforce and community</li> <li>Commitment to and demonstrated success discussing, integrating, and promoting diversity, equity, inclusion, and accessibility</li> <li>Strong computer skills and familiarity with technology such as Google docs, Microsoft Office products, smart phones, tablets, and eReaders</li> <li>Familiarity with training patrons on, and troubleshooting for, digital downloadables (eBooks, streaming services like hoopla and OverDrive)&nbsp;</li> <li>Familiarity with, or ability to learn, Innovative&rsquo;s Sierra ILS platform and other library applications (ex. Bibliocommons, Communico, DeskTracker, Humanity) as required to perform assigned duties effectively</li> <li>Commitment to patron confidentiality/privacy</li> <li>Demonstrated ability to: <ul> <li>develop and maintain strong working relationships with colleagues and community members</li> <li>anticipate and creatively solve problems with a flexible mindset</li> <li>work independently and handle multiple initiatives requiring prioritization, organization, and attention to detail while meeting deadlines</li> <li>positively adjust to change</li> </ul> </li> </ul> <strong>Preferred Qualifications:</strong> <ul> <li>Experience working in a public library</li> </ul> <strong>Preferred Competencies:</strong> <ul> <li>Multilingual skills in English plus other languages relevant to the Skokie community</li> </ul>
