Research and Learning Librarian, Subject Specialist in the Sciences
Loyola University Chicago (Loyola) seeks nominations and applications to identify user-focused, collaborative, and forward-thinking candidates for the position of Research and Learning Librarian, Subject Specialist in the Sciences. This position will serve as library liaison for selected academic departments (possibilities include&nbsp;<a href="https://www.luc.edu/biology/index.shtml">Biology</a>,&nbsp;<a href="https://www.luc.edu/chemistry/index.shtml">Chemistry</a>,&nbsp;<a href="https://www.luc.edu/physics/index.shtml">Physics</a>,&nbsp;<a href="https://www.luc.edu/nursing/">Nursing</a>, and&nbsp;<a href="https://www.luc.edu/parkinson/">Public Health</a>) and programs in the natural and health sciences based on candidate disciplinary strengths, experience, and knowledge; provide support for research metrics and other aspects of scholarly communication in the sciences; develop, deliver, and assess instruction and other information literacy initiatives; consult with and provide support for student and faculty researchers throughout the research lifecycle; and identify, acquire, and promote scholarly resources to support curricular and research needs. This position also supports general research and learning needs of the university, including information literacy instruction for first year students, and participates in other library programming and information services.<br /> This is a non-tenured, open-rank, library faculty position with opportunities for promotion. Librarians work in a collegial and supportive environment, where individual discovery and exploration is balanced with teamwork and collaboration. Experimentation and creative problem solving are highly encouraged.<br /> The successful candidate will be based on the Lake Shore campus in Rogers Park but will serve users at all campus locations. In addition to working with library colleagues at Lake Shore campus, the person in this position will have frequent opportunities to collaborate with librarians and staff at the Water Tower campus in downtown Chicago. Opportunities for continuing education and training to develop skills and competencies related to the job are available, encouraged, and supported.<br /> <strong>Responsibilities</strong><br /> Reporting to the Head of Research and Learning Services, the Research and Learning Librarian, Subject Specialist in the Sciences will: <ul> <li>Provide research, learning, and engagement support to selected departments and programs in the sciences, including course-integrated instruction, skill-building workshops, research consultations, and collection development.</li> <li>Contribute to Research and Learning Services Department projects and initiatives, including creating research guides and instructional materials, advising on the development of library discovery tools, and staffing information desks and services.</li> <li>Provide library and information literacy instruction for university programs including first year writing, honors program, and undergraduate research initiatives.</li> <li>Provide support for research data management, research metrics, and scholarly communication in the sciences.</li> <li>Work autonomously and collaboratively to meet strategic goals, while consistently promoting teamwork, respect, diversity, and inclusiveness.</li> <li>Participate in library and university committee work.</li> <li>Actively contribute to the broader profession through scholarship and service.</li> <li>Other duties to support outreach and engagement as assigned.</li> </ul>

Requirements <strong>Required qualifications</strong> <ul> <li>Master&#39;s degree from an ALA-accredited library and information science program, or a graduate degree in a related field, combined with relevant library experience.</li> <li>Experience providing library instruction and research support, or equivalent experience with teaching, public speaking, or customer support.</li> <li>Coursework and/or experience with key information resources in a variety of scientific disciplines.</li> <li>Demonstrated ability to learn new tools and skills to support digital research methods.</li> <li>Effective interpersonal and communication skills.</li> <li>Commitment to advancing diversity and inclusion in our workplace, as well as in the systems and services we build, as an equity and social justice imperative.</li> <li>Demonstrated awareness of and sensitivity to the educational goals of a multicultural population.</li> </ul> <strong>Preferred qualifications</strong> <ul> <li>Additional advanced degree in a STEM field or demonstrated subject knowledge and familiarity with the research methodologies of one or more STEM disciplines.</li> <li>Knowledge of collection development and management practices in academic libraries.</li> <li>Knowledge of research data management policies and practices.</li> <li>Experience with tools for data analysis.</li> <li>Understanding and appreciation of key information literacies, including critical literacy, data literacy, media literacy, and visual literacy.</li> </ul>
