Job Purpose and Summary
Is your dream job one where you spend your days thinking up new ways to turn kids and teens into lifelong learners? Do you have the stamina and energy to wear a variety of programming hats, such as: Storytime Showrunner, Teen Advisory Group Wrangler, or After-School S.T.E.M. 'Scientist'? Are you excited about becoming part of a diverse and welcoming community where you'll get to create lasting relationships with teachers, youth, and caregivers? Then you're in luck: we might just have the perfect job for you!
Yakima Valley Libraries, located in Central Washington State, is seeking candidates for the position of Librarian II - Youth Services. This dynamic role is based in one of the busiest branches in our Library District and, for the right person, will provide an opportunity to impactfully shape youth programming and services in the Upper Yakima Valley.
About The Position:
Our ideal candidate is an experienced, imaginative, and (almost) tirelessly energetic MLIS/MLS-degreed librarian who is ready to dive in and take on a variety of youth programming and services, including collection development, readers' advisory, and community outreach.
You should be well-versed in early literacy methodology and a dedicated proponent of play-based learning. You'll also earn extra points if you're basically a big kid at heart -- because let's face it: someone has to do the puppet voiceovers during storytime sing-alongs!
When it comes to working with tweens and teens, well ... IYKYK, amirite? But no cap - while keeping up with the latest Gen Z slang isn't a job requirement, you should be a cheerleader for teen-led programming and outside-thebox problem solving.
Oh, and if you believe that the needs, interests, and opinions of young patrons are just as valid as those of adults, we definitely want to meet you!
Other qualities on our 'ideal candidate' wish list include:
- An aficionado/a of managing controlled chaos
- An experienced public speaker who is able to effectively engage with a wide range of audiences and age groups
- A friendly, flexible, self-motivated team-player
- Someone who agrees that libraries are for everyone, regardless of age, gender, culture, or background
At Yakima Valley Libraries, we pride ourselves on being an educational, recreational, and community hub.
We believe in the vital mission of public libraries to empower, inform, and inspire the populations we serve.
We're committed to turning challenges into opportunities, ideas into action, staff into superstars, and patrons into lifelong learners. Come join our team!
