Nicanor Diaz Statement

Nicanor Diaz
Nominee for REFORMA Vice-President / President Elect

Alma Ramos-McDermott
My name is Nicanor Diaz and I’m running for the position of Vice President/President-Elect of REFORMA National. My involvement with REFORMA National began back in 2007 when I did a presentation to the REFORMA Colorado chapter. As the  REFORMA Colorado Chapter President I collaborated with many dedicated members and officers to found the REFORMA Colorado Conference which has served as a fundraiser and membership drive for our chapter. The Colorado Chapter has grown to its largest membership at almost 70 members. Additionally, I helped start a translation service for libraries in Colorado that do not have the resources to translate their own materials.

At the national level, I started as the Central Chapter Representative 4 years ago. In my current role, I coordinated the REFORMA National Grant Program that just awarded two chapters $500 to help with programming in their area. I have enjoyed working under the leadership of Tess Tobin, Madeline Peña, Kenny Garcia and Oscar Baeza. I have learned a lot from them and I believe that they worked incredibly hard to resurrect REFORMA National. I would like to have the opportunity to continue building on the very important work that they have done. REFORMA National is thriving. REFORMA has been more active and engaged than ever and we must take advantage of this opportunity to continue to grow and spread our vital work.
