Romelia Salinas Statement

Romelia Salinas
Nominee for REFORMA Vice-President/President-Elect

I am honored to be nominated for Vice President/President-Elect of REFORMA. As we celebrate REFORMA’s 50th anniversary it provides us a moment to reflect on what we have achieved and to set the direction for the next 50 years. I am excited by the possibility to lead the organization towards continued growth and excellence.

I have been involved with REFORMA for over 25 years and with each year my commitment and admiration for my REFORMA familia grows. Currently, I am the Associate Dean of Library & Learning Resources at Mt. San Antonio College. Nationally, I have served REFORMA as a founding member of the Information Technology Committee and Web team, as a Chapter Representative and as the chair of the Education Committee. Locally, I was President of the Los Angeles Chapter for multiple years. I am also active on state and ALA committees, including currently serving as an ALA Councilor-at-Large. I will bring these experiences to this position and promise to make REFORMA my professional priority.

We find ourselves in the midst of turbulent times, an unprecedented pandemic, racism at a high, and our communities hurting. Libraries save and transform lives. Today we need to be stronger than ever to support our communities. I will work with REFORMA leadership to strengthen organizational efficiency, advocate for the inclusion of equity in LIS education, provide additional professional development opportunities, and create stronger partnerships with our ethnic caucus siblings.

I humbly ask for your support to be the next REFORMA President. Adelante!
